Education: Residency Programs
The Department of Family Medicine at USU maintains close ties with the 17 military family medicine residency programs. Most faculty at these programs are adjunct faculty with the USU. These ties allow for collaboration to ensure that the educational needs of family medicine students and residents are being addressed throughout the continuum of medical education.

Selecting a Family Medicine Residency:
The third and early fourth years of medical school are critical years in the student's decision making process for residency selection. This is the time when options are explored, preferences and priorities are sorted out and decisions tested.
The following are some general suggestions on how to select a residency program:
- Select a residency that you feel will meet your unique needs, talents and interests
- Consider the needs of your spouse/significant other
- A clerkship experience at a location generally helps both the student and program in making selections.
- A general rule is this: all military residency programs are generally strong, with most having 5-year accreditations from the American College of Graduate Medical Education. Each program will have relative strengths and weaknesses.
